Hans,
My name is Harriet Feagin. Currently I am a teacher so I cannot participate in 2011 but would love to have my name on the list for 2012. I live in the USA in Texas and my dream has always been to see Europe. Your photos are lovely and I would very much like to know more about your workshops. I have a friend who may also be interested. Thanks,

I now have the 24-70mm L and the 24-105mm L lens and I am looking to add another lens to my collection. What do you think of the Canon 17-40mm F4.0 L or the Canon EF 16-35mm f-2.8L II ? which one do you like better?

Hello Hans,

Thanks for the comments.

I saw that you've travelled through Ladakh too. That was one of my most impressive journeys (perhaps you've already seen my Ladakh gallery)...
And I also saw your Peru-gallery... In may this year I'm going to travel through Peru, Bolivia en Chili too... so your gallery will be an inspiration for that journey!..

I really like your photos. I started by looking at some of your San Francisco photos, moved on to glance through India and Hong Kong. I've added you to my favorite artist list so I can come back to check out the rest of your photos when I have more time. Very nice work. You really have a few really great photos in each gallery that are way beyond what most people get. Nicely done!

Thanks Peter,

Yes, as you notice most are shot with the 24-70mm, which I actually bought in Hong Kong. It's a great lens and I would recommend the 70-200 f/4 L as well. With the two you are well covered in my view. I also have a wider lens, the Sigma 15-30mm, which I use much less and typically at 15mm. I did use this lens i Hong Kong also in street situations and I also use it for landscape now and then. If you want a wider lens then I would recommend the Canon 17-40mm as a better choice than the Sigma.

Cheers,
Hans

Hans,

Nice pictures in your Hong Kong gallery. I am going to visit Hong Kong in summer 2005. I hope I can get some advices on which lens to buy and bring. I only have one lens so far with my Canon 10D. I would like to buy and bring another lens with me but want to keep it to minimal. Do you recommend a wide angle lens like 17-40L4 or a tele lens like 70-200L4 and 70-300 DO/IS? I know your Hong Kong pictures are mostly shot with 24-70. I wonder if the reason is that 24mm is wide enough? I am also scared about 10D not being fast enough for low light shots. Any thoughts on that? Are your pictures shot handheld?

Thanks.

Venlig hilsen
Preben

Hello Brian,

With the 10D I only use Canon's L-series lense, except for the wide angle zoom which is a Sigma 15-30mm DG EX. The mountain pictures were all taken with the 70-200mm f/4 L lens. That is the prerequisite for clarity to have a good lens and this is as good as it gets.

Secondly I used a tripod, f/16 and ISO 100. This gives good depth of field essential to this type of scene. The tripod and ISO 100 is essential also to give absolute best sharpness.

Thirdly I shoot only in RAW format and the use Capture One DSLR SE from Phase One for RAW conversion and picture adjustment. This includes the final USM filter for sharpness.

Except being lucky about where I am at a particular moment in time and can spend the needed time to wait for the right moment, there is really no more to it, I guess.

Many thanks for question and kind comments on my pictures.

Hans

Hello Hans,

Thank you for some really wonderful pictures in your PBase galleries and the latest stunning pictures from the Himalayas on Fred Miranda's forums. Every picture seems just right - something achieved only after years of experience or, in my case, only very rarely!

I also use a Canon EOS 10D and would love to know a little more about your processing techniques please. I need help and your results lead me to believe you could teach me a great deal if only you could spare a little time to initiate me in the mysteries!

Again, sincere congratulations on a wonderful collection and thanks for sharing your vision with us all.

I have just looked at your galleries and I must say that you realy have an eye for capturing beautiful images.I was trying to decide wich camera to buy next and after seeing the beautiful shots from the 10D my choice is clear. The 10D is the camera for me.Now if I could only capture the beauty in my pictures as you do then all would be complete.Thank you for showing your work for all to see and for showing the beauty in places that I can only dream of visiting.....Thank you once more...Mike
